Álvaro Ribas

MSc Student in Electrical Engineering

Institut Polytechnique de Paris

I am a last-year MSc student in Electrical Engineering in the Laboratoire Traitment et Communication de l'Information (LTCI) at Télécom Paris, Institut Polytechnique de Paris, advised by Prof. Shanshan Wang. My main research lies at the intersection of wireless communications, stochastic geometry and machine learning.

Currently, I am doing my final research internship at Orange Innovation, advised by Dr. Mohamed Karray. I am broadly interested in predicting the evolution of QoS in cellular networks with physics-informed machine learning.

Always open to talk, discuss and share experiences from research and life. Feel free to reach out!

Here is a collection of miscellaneous things about me!

⚛︎ International Physicists' Tournament (IPT)

▸

I was a member of Team Unicamp and Team Brazil from 2021 to 2023.

The IPT is the largest annual competition in experimental physics for undergradute and graduate students in the world. Every year, teams of six students work on solutions of 17 open problems proposed by the organization, that can range from simple experiments to complex new phenomena. The best teams from each university compete in the regionals, and the winners represent their country on the international stage.

🎾︎ Tennis

▸

I'm an avid tennis player since I was 12. I grew up on clay!

Here are some photos from nice tennis moments I have experienced over the years. My ultimate goal as a fan is to attend all 4 grand slams.

My favorite player was Dominic Thiem. To this day, I play with an one-handed backhand and argue many more players should still adopt it.

🏠︎ Brazil

▸

I'm Brazilian and very proudly so. I like to talk about my country whenever I have the chance.

I grew up in the state of Minas Gerais, known for its rich architecture, culinary, and friendly people. We are particularly recognised by our traditional pão de queijo, our coffee, and our cheese — canastra is my favorite!

The music from Minas is also a gentle reminder of home that I listen to daily. I'm personally fond of Milton Nascimento and Lagum.
